By reading this post, I come to think about another very important project along the same road.
The Great Rivers Partnership
Worldwide water usage has increased six times since the 1900s. That's twice the rate of human population growth. According to the United Nations, nearly half the world's population will experience critical water shortages by the year 2025.
The Nature Conservancy began the Great Rivers Partnership to help protect freshwater resources, transforming the way large river systems are preserved and protected. What impact will construction of a new dam have on the water supply of a town downstream? Will clear-cutting a forest in the upper part of a river's watershed imperil the fish stocks local people depend on for food?
Addressing these questions will help government organizations set policy and management decisions to help conserve the natural environment and benefit residents at the same time. The project will initially focus on three large river systems: the

I have never been there but I recognize the "Morro de Arica " in the background...
I have heard theories predicting that water (or lack thereof) will be the reason for future wars...
Yes, water may well be a subject for wars - tribal wars related to water have existed for "thousands" of years allready - and still goes on in certain parts of Africa.
Read the last sentence in this post. And think about Northern Chile - if we humans only could apply the same ability (even artificially):

I never read this possibility about water and war. But really I can understand it should become a real problem in the future. I will come back later to read all! It seems really interesting and of course all what is about the environement is important now! Nous aussi on aura des problèmes ici. C'est seulement la deuxième fois que je porte un petit blouson. Et il n'a pas plu sérieusement depuis deux mois...
That's all very interesting but badly distributed while one side of the globe sufferes heats and has not enough water, I am freezing here and the whole summer it was raining ! Today we only had 6°C which is quite unusual for October and in the nights it's already freezing. They talked about the homeless and that the shelters should be opened but some crazy politician had decided years ago they only open 1st of December ! It's a shame you can't freeze after the calender !
I was not aware of this theory either, but it's definitely something to thing about.

I pray that I am no longer alive by 2025! (lol) Seriously, I said to you that the world is coming to an end...And it sure feels like it is, Tor....it was 95 degrees here today and yesterday...A lot of California is burning up...!
I truly cannot stand to think about all this----I guess I'm just trying to get up and move around and kind of get through the day in as comfortable way as possible--- that is a triumph these days...and everything else is almost too BIG for me to thinbk about...At least, today.

Water is a huge problemfor many and we need to do anything it takes to secure it for the good of all...but not wage war over it. You guys with all your rain need to send your rainbarrels over to Old Lady of the Hills to fight the fires!

These are perhaps the most important ones, without water people can't survive. We tend to forget that.
...and there has been a lot of water needed in CA now too.... Horrifying really.

Tor, I am putting two and two and two together, and getting somewhere eventually. I didn't realise it was IBM - they put the food on our table :) and I believe they do yours too.
